This Weeks Favorites

Book: Food Network Magazine
Even though it's not a book, I really enjoy the Food Network magazine. I subscribed to it recently and getting it is really something to look forward to. I just wish I had more time and money to indulge in making things from it.

Movie/TV Show: Beyond the Boundary
Another anime has made my favorites list but that shouldn't be too surprising. Anyway Beyond the Boundary is a new anime and it's spectacular. The art is wonderful. The characters quirky and for the most part charming. The storyline is captivating. If you like supernatural anime with a hint of boy meets girl, you should check this one out.

Beauty: Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez
Like I mentioned earlier this week I had gone clothes shopping with my boyfriend and we went to K-Mart. K-Mart is the only place that I know sells the Dream Out Loud brand and I love almost all the stuff. I'm kind of picky buying clothes but it's not hard for me to pick up something I like from that collection.

Food: Spaghetti with Eggs
Strangely enough my boyfriend likes to eat spaghetti with eggs. It sounds kind of weird, or at least it did to me, but it's strangely delicious. If you ever in a bind over what to cook you should try this. It's cheap and easy to make plus it offers a lot of room for creativity. I mean scrambled eggs, spaghetti sauce, and pasta! That screams "make me to you tastes!"
Misc: Saltine Crackers
Technically I'm sort of cheating by putting food twice but with my tummy problems this week, saltine crackers have become my best friend. It sort of makes me crave some soup too @.@

This Weeks Favorites

Book: Any Cook Book
Lately I've been really into cooking lately. I'm so glad I have so many cookbooks that I can choose from to cook from. I didn't post anything too specific because there's waaaay to many to choose!
Movie/T.V.: Log Horizon
There's been a new show that came out a couple of weeks ago called Log Horizon. I really like video game world type stories and shows so this was right up my alley. Plus so far it's been pretty light hearted. It also sort of reminds me of a story I was trying to write once.
Food: Dang Toasted Coconut Chips
These came in my Love with Food Box a couple of days ago and holy cow they were great! I would even like to get more but unfortunately they don't sell them anywhere close by. Thankfully my boyfriend says that his grandma can make ones even better than this.
Beauty: The Wet Brush
I really love the Wet Brush that I got in the PopSugar box. I honestly use it every day. It's much more gentle on me than my old brush even though I'll keep both. Once I get some sort of travel pouch I'll probably leave my Wet Brush in it since it's also slightly smaller than my other brush.
Misc: Juby Phonic

Juby Phonic is a youtuber that does English covers of Japanese songs. I absolutely love all of her stuff! 'Imagination Forest' (the video above) is one of my favorites and I hope you enjoy it. If you like it you should definitely check out her channel on youtube.

This Weeks Favorites

Book: The Nest: Newlywed Handbook
Even though I'm not married and I won't be for awhile I decided to pick up the Newlywed Handbook. I thought it was cute and a good edition for anyone really in a serious relationship. Plus it appeals to people of all kinds. It's not just a straight one way street where you have to do it one way or there's no hope. I don't read many books like this so I'm not sure if it's common but based on similar articles I've read it isn't so nice touch.
Movie/Show: Gossip Girl Season 6
This week the sixth and final season of Gossip Girl finally came out on Netflix. I have been waiting a long time for this season to come up so I was ecstatic to get the email that it was finally up. Compared to the last couple of Gossip Girl seasons this one is really shining through and I may like all of the characters more than I ever did before.
Food: China Buffet
This week my boyfriend took me out to eat. We ate at this buffet and I think this is going to become our little weekly tradition! Which is great since my boyfriend actually hates eating out.
Beauty: Jane Tran Bobby Pins
Even though my PopSugar box came yesterday I used the bobby pins immediately to take to work, since at work my hair gets a disheveled and makes me look like a crazy person. What I loved about this bobby pins is they didn't move or displace themselves which is always a huge problem I have with these things.

Misc: Pokemon X

With as much as I've talked about it the past 3 weeks were you really expecting something different? Anyway my lovely boyfriend stopped by Gamestop this morning, before work, to pick up these two gems then dropped mine off at my house. I've already started playing and from the first minute I was in love. Once I get far enough into the game I'll drop you guys a review!

Tilapia Puttanesca

Last week I made a tilapia dish from the Italian All-Time Favorites Cook Book. It came out remarkably and I ate it with white rice. I won't post the recipe itself as it's in a published work already but here's a picture of how it came out!

It has tilapia, red onion, tomatoes, capers, garlic, and black olives. Maybe if I make a variation of it I'll post the recipe up. Or if you'd like to try it out just shoot me an email.

SkoshBox October 2013

So on Monday I got my SkoshBox. I wasn't expecting it then since it was still September even though I knew it was supposed to come on the first week of October.
So for anyone that doesn't know SkoshBox is a subscription box that ships out in the beginning of each month. In the box you'll find little samples of Japanese candies and snacks plus a little gift.
First off I want to say I did not have very high expectations for this box because I had looked at some previous reviews for the past few months and saw that they kind of repeat a lot of snacks due to so called "popular demand". Either way I rather liked the box.

Oh and I apologize for the bad pictures. For some reason they came out all tinted pink.
Matcha Gum Pack: So one of the items I got was this green tea gum. It has a weird herby plus minty smell. It wasn't the best thing in the box but I like gum so it wasn't so bad.
Black Sesame Mochi: This was a chewy sort of candy (I suppose?). It had a sort of peanut taste, obviously, and it was okay. Again not my favorite snack in the box but it was okay. My boyfriend didn't like it at all.
Nori Wrapped Senbei: I actually think I've had this before on a smaller scale. They're basically little crackers with a piece of seaweed on it. It was pretty good and my boyfriend did actually sort of like this one.
Fizzy Soda Candy: I had gotten the pineapple and apple flavors. I tried the pineapple one and woah was this candy something new. It gets all fizzy when you put it in your mouth and both me and my boyfriend liked this one. I think what I liked more was the novelty of it since I'm pretty sure I've never tried this one before.
Endo Green Pea: These were basically fried green peas. Honestly they weren't that good. It definitely wasn't something I'd try on my own. I don't think my boyfriend liked it but I know for sure he thought it was spicy for some reason.
Nigata Rice Crackers: This didn't really stand out too much and I honestly don't remember how it tasted. I remember liking it a little bit. My boyfriend didn't like it though.
Soft Salad Senbei: These are also rice crackers but they are more puffy. They have a sort of fishy smell and taste and I really liked them. In fact if I could go to the Asian Market Place sometime soon I'd get a whole package of them. My boyfriend didn't like them though so more for me! =p
Sparkling Ball Candy: I got the apple flavored candy. There was only one but my boyfriend took a bite of it. We both agreed it was basically a lollipop. Nothing special but it was still yummy.
Ume Cracker: This is basically a cracker has pickled plum glazing on it. I have absolutely LOVED pickled plums since I was younger so this was a great treat for me. My boyfriend didn't like it though because it's a bit sour which made me very happy since I loved it.
Chocolate Puff: This was sort of like a puffy and fluffy cookie coated in chocolate. When I first opened the package it looked like it would maybe be a wafer type cookie or maybe a biscuit type cookie but it was not. With that said it was very good and me and my boyfriend really liked it. Unfortunately I got a little greedy and ate most of it. (Sorry kitty! >-<)
Hagaki: The last thing in the box was the little gift. They sent two postcards and they were really cute. I don't really want to use them at all! I'm just going to keep them forever! Maybe put them in a scrapbook maybe.

Long story short I rather liked the box even though I wasn't expecting that much out of it. I might not get it every month but maybe once and awhile. Plus the little gift was really cute! If you want to try out the SkoshBox or even just check it out then you can find it here.

Mini Hamburger Patties

On Sunday I made really yummy mini hamburger patties. Even though no one at my house really ate them, except me and my little brother, I just thought I'd share them with you.

I made them with ground beefItalian style panko, an egg, sea salt, pepper, and garlic. It was more simple than I would usually make but delicious none the less.
First I mixed all of the ingredients while preheating the stove at medium heat. After the ingredients were all mixed I shaped them into patties and cooked them for about 7 to 8 minutes each side.

See? Simple. You could probably even us the recipe to make them into meatballs to eat with spaghetti by just cooking them in the sauce instead of pan frying them. Or just eat them with rice and a salad like I did.

The Week Ahead

It's finally the final week in September! It's so exciting! Now here are the things that I'm looking forward to this week and month ahead!

  • It's my first subscription box month and I am extremely excited. I've been waiting for it since the first week of September! Hopefully I can even get my first box this week since the Skoshbox shipment is supposed to come at the beginning of each month
  • Pokemon x & y comes out in two weeks! This is the first time I can remember being so excited for a Pokemon game!
  • I'm going to be making a yummy dinner for my boyfriend sometime this week, which I'll be sure to post pictures of and the recipe.
  • I subscribed to a new subscription box as well. It's called Dr. D's Pet Packages and as you probably guessed it's for... Pets! I may try some other pet boxes later on but this was the least expensive that I found that also catered to cats
That's everything that I'm really pumped up for this week. What are you looking forward to this week and now that October is just a day away? Has anyone else decided to join the subscription box train? Let me know!
Hopefully this week I can get in a couple of reviews and I will for sure get in a recipe or two.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

The Good

  • The Pokemon 3ds came out on Friday so I got it for my boyfriend! It's so cool looking! I hope he loves it!
  • I've been really into "Lie to Me" this week. Hopefully I can finish it and start with a new show. I owe my boyfriend watching Sherlock
  • Just one day left and it's October which means Horror Nights, Subscription Boxes, and Halloween! Wooh!

The Bad

  • N is going to be moving in December so that means there's less time to plan the baby shower than I originally thought
  • I left my Nook charger at my boyfriend's house for two days and it was a very tortuous time without my Nook..!
  • I'm still closing all the nights I work which is lame, especially since I haven't really had any shifts with the coworkers I'm friendly with

The Ugly

Something I ate on Thursday made me horribly sick. I was really dizzy and vomity and bleh. It lasted all the way until Friday night. I really hate having such a weak stomach but there's nothing I can really do about it.

This Week's Favorites

Book: My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands

Yeah I got the picture off of Amazon oops
Honestly any book by Chelsea Handler could have gone here but this was the one I read this week. Honestly she's crazy funny. I love her books.

Movie/TV Show: My Girlfriend Is A Gumiho
I haven't really watched any movies this week, except for the Futurama movies on Netflix, so I choose My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. It's a Korean drama that I just started watching this week and it is sooooo cute! I've only seen the first episode so far but it has won me over.

Food: Sea Salt & Vinegar PopChips

The first time I tried PopChips I remembered hating them but these were pretty good. They're supposed to be air popped potato chips and are apparently super healthy, the only problem is like with all chips the bag feels so empty.

Beauty: Instant Warming Foot Scrub by Julep
I finally tried this stuff out on Thursday and I love it! Of course I only got a sample packet but if I actually painted my toes I'd order some.

Miscellaneous: Booda Litter Dome
I know I have it tagged as a litter box but well it's a dome. And It stops my kitty from trying to bury her business with the wall... and floor... and everything that's not the litter in her litter box.

Oven Roasted Ribs

Today I got to make dinner and I wound up making oven roasted ribs. It's actually something I make every few weeks and it comes out super yummy. Making it is super easy and what really matters is the sauce.
They don't really look so good in this picture but they're really yummy

When you first get the ribs you have to put them in a pressure cooker for about an hour or so with seasoning. If you don't have a pressure cooker you can boil them regularly but that will take a bit longer.

After the ribs are all soft you get a bowl and mix together barbecue sauce, soy sauce, mojo, naranja agria, and garlic. Today I didn't feel like using natural garlic so I just used jarred minced garlic.

After that you transfer the ribs to the oven safe dish and pour the mix evenly over the ribs. Then you cover it and put it in the oven for 30 to 45 minutes. It doesn't need too long since you boiled them before hand.

Once the 30 minutes is up you take the ribs out and uncover them and spoon the juices on top. Then set your oven to broil and return the ribs to the oven uncovered. But keep an eye on them so they don't burn.

After that they're ready to eat with anything. White rice, yellow rice, congri, tostones, salad, anything you want.
