PopSugar Must Have October 2013 Review

This week I got my PopSugar Must Have Box after an agonizing wait. This was my first box so I have nothing to compare to but either way I loved it.
Even though many people didn't seem to like the box since it seems cheap I was won over and will without a doubt extend my subscription without a second thought.

Julep Char Nail Polish (It Girl)($14.00)/Freedom Polymer Top Coat($18.00): This box came with both a Julep polish and a top coat. I haven't used either yet but I really like Julep's polish so I will definitely use it on my next day off, From the bottle it looks like a bluish purple color. I don't really know if it's "me" but I'll find out.

On top of that I also got a coupon code for a free first Julep box free but I've already gotten one so I'll share it with you! Just go here and enter JULEPMUSTHAVE after filling out your style profile.
Jane Tran Bobby Pins($12.00): As I said in my "This Weeks Favorites" I really loved these bobby pins. In fact besides the cook book I was looking forward to these the most. I've been looking for bobby pins for a long time to keep my hair from getting too crazy at work and I lucked out with this months box.

The Wet Brush($14.00): I really enjoyed the wet brush because I have troublesome hair and like to brush it when I've just showered. The best part is that it's very gentle on my head without being useless.

Stich Fix $20 Credit: I was ecstatic to get the Stitch Fix gift card because I've been wanting to try it for a long while but didn't want to pay the $20 in case I didn't like it. But now here's my chance and it's set to ship in November.

Gorjana Charity Bali Bead Bracelet($45.00): The bracelet was crazy cute, though a bit pricey for what it is. I know I didn't have to pay for it straight but still. Anyway, it fit well. Not too big, not too small but for some reason the ends sort of unraveled the first day I used it. I emailed PopSugar about this but haven't heard back yet so I'll just have to see.

NYX Liquid Eye Liner($6.00): I just love eye liner even though I don't get to use it much. I'm also really happy I got the black instead of the brown. The only issue is I always mess up trying to use liquid liner! Oh well, I guess it's a good chance to learn.

NYX Smokey Shadow Palette ($7.00): I don't use eyeshadow. I don't know how to use eyeshadow. But then again I've always wanted to learn. So here's the perfect opportunity beside I like the group of colors.

The Crispery Halloween CrispyCake($3.95): I wound up sharing the crispy cake with my boyfriend and it was amazingly delish! It was way better than any rice crispy treat I've tasted in stores and I would love to get it again or even gift it to family and friends.

The Can't Cook Book by Jessica Seinfeld ($17.11) : This was what I was most looking forward to once I saw the spoilers. I love cooking and I'm great at it but I love having new cook books to spice things up a little. I flipped through it a little and the recipes look great! I can't wait to try them.

In total my first PopSugar Box came out to be worth $157.06 which is well over the $35 dollar price tag. I am actually a little surprised it was worth so much and I have to say it was very worth it since I know I will use (or try to) everything in the box.

Remember if you want to try the PopSugar Box before the prices hike up do it before November! Just click here and use the REFER5 code to get $5 off!

This Weeks Favorites

Book: How to Love Italian Style

I originally picked up this book because I heard a lot of bad things about it and I wanted to see just how bad it really was. My verdict; not that bad. I really liked it even though I can't say that I agreed with everything she said.

Movie/TV Show: My Cat From Hell

I really love cats. So when this show appeared on my recommended list for Netflix I jumped at the chance to watch. The best part about this show is that in watching it I learned a lot of tips and tricks to taking care of my own kitty.
Food: Smart Food Hummus Popped Chip
One thing I really love is hummus with pita chips, so when I found this snack I was ecstatic! They were extremely delicious and even better than the pop chips I tried last week.

Beauty: Julep Nail Polish
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who has noticed or if it's just me but the Julep nail polish goes on better than any nail polish I've ever used. Plus it has a kind of oat like smell(or maybe that's just me). I've never been the type to like painting my nails but I may just start.

Miscellaneous: Nook HD
When things like e-books and e-readers first came around I was really against them. I found them really impersonal and I am a person that likes to feel a book in her hands. However now that I have a nook HD I can't put it down! At first my love for it was slow coming since I had a lot of books from the library I still had to read but now that I've started using it it's hard to imagine life without it. Now if only I could take out library books on my nook...

Julep Bombshell Maven Introductory Box

As I mentioned in my previous post I finally got my Julep Bombshell Maven Box. It's the first subscription box I've ever gotten and I used a code to get it at about $5 if I remember correctly. Anyway, For those of you who don't know the Julep subscription box is a monthly subscription box at $19.99 a month. Depending on which Style you get in the style quiz you can get any combination of a couple of nail polishes a month and a beauty product (or three, I believe, if you get the Modern Beauty Maven).

The Julep Box is pretty simply on the outside and it leaves you with no mystery in what came in the mail today.

This was my first glance at the box. It actually looks pretty... Classy? I've never gotten a subscription box before so I don't know if nail polish/ makeup boxes usually look classy, but the first look was a good one.

The box didn't really come with any info card on the products but it gave two cute little information card about the benefits of being a Maven, the type of box you got, and the 'welcome' letter to their services.

One of the first things I noticed was the Instant Warming Foot Scrub sample since I was not expecting to get this. I haven't tried it yet but it's sort of tempting. Maybe one of these days when I have a day to myself I'll try it out.

The next thing I took out was the Mint Condition Pedi Creme. I don't really paint my toenails and I also sort of don't know what it would be used for (I know I'm so lame. But I wound up giving it to my stepmother since she loves doing her nails and things like that. She'll probably like it and I'll be sure to give an update on what she thinks of it.

Now for the fun stuff. This is one of the nail polishes I got. It's called 'Madison' and it's part of their "Classic with a Twist" collection. You can't really tell from the picture but it's a peachy pink. Not really my favorite shade but combined with the other polish they gave me it turned out okay.

The second polish they sent me was 'Oscar' from the "It Girl" collection. This one I really loved because it was sparkly gold (I'm such a little kid). I really love nail polishes that I can paint on top of others, like the Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy. So I wound up painting it on top of the pinkish polish and it looked really cute.

My final verdict is that I surprisingly loved the box. I don't paint my nails that often and honestly my job doesn't allow me the liberty since they get ruined really easily. but this is definitely a box that I will get every once and awhile, which is another great thing about it. On the 20th of every month you get to see what will be included in your box and can choose to skip it any month you choose or even get one of the other boxes.

So if you have any friends who would be or if you yourself are interested in in the Julep box then you can go ahead and check it out here; Julep.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The Good

  • My Julep Box finally came this week! I'll definitely do a review on it when I get the chance. I don't really like nail polish but Julep may just change my mind
  • I've been watching A LOT of movies lately. Now You See Me, World War Z, Oblivion. They were all really good I'll also be sure to review those when I get the chance. Has anyone else seen them or any other good movies? What did you think?

The Bad

  • My cat continues to kick litter out of the box even though I've bought one with a shield... the worst part is she doesn't even know how to bury it
  • I've worked a closing shift every night I worked this week. It's so tiring. T-T
  • I accidentally let all my library books get over-due again

The Ugly

The absolute worst thing that's happened this week is that all the screens in the drive thru at work (where the order shows up) are broken. It's such a hassle now that we have to reprint all the receipts. The worst part of it is that a group of cars that would take about twenty minutes to take care of wind up taking longer since we have to go so slow.
